Additionally, Tim also holds the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval. He forecasts the weather for News Channel 3 at 4, 4:30, 6 each weekday. But forecasting weather is only part of his job, he also speaks at schools, churches, and civic groups around the Mid-South about weather and severe weather in particular.
Over the years in WREG-TV, he has managed to cover several stories including snow storms, wildfires, hurricanes, the 2008 Super Tuesday tornadoes, and so much more. In 1997 he was honored with an Emmy Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Weathercasting. He picked up a second Emmy Award in 2009 for his coverage of the Super Tuesday tornadoes of 2008. After graduating from college, he started off his career working at a station based in Greenville, South Carolina. He left the station after a while and joined another station in Huntsville, Alabama.

Tim Simpson Retirement|Leaving WREG-TV
In late July 2023, Simpson officially retired and left WREG-TV. This was after working at the station for 29 years serving as a meteorologist. In addition to that, he also stated that he will be focusing more on his family and the things he loves.
