Before joining WSYR, she worked as a weekend producer and reporter at CNYCentral WSTM NBC3, WTVH CBS5, and CW6 in Syracuse, NY from June 2003 to May 2004.

In 2018, she won a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for reporting on Under the Helmet, for making a profile on a player in the Super Bowl-winning NFL who dealt with mental illness and its stigma. Holmes was honored with the Female News Anchor of the Year Award by Medaille College in 2013.
