In 2003, Kourakis enrolled at the University of Maryland, where he graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. He currently serves as a sports anchor and reporter at WPBF 25, where covers all aspects of South Florida sports alongside Shayne Wright. Previously, Yianni served as the WPRI-TV sports director for 8 years in his home state of Rhode Island. During his time there, he covered the golden age of New England professional sports including two Boston Red Sox World Series, four New England Patriots Super Bowls, and a Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Finals.

Yianni also helped establish a regional New England Patriots pregame show, a weekly podcast, and a high school football show. He was named Sportscaster of the Year in Rhode Island, honored with the AP Award for Best Sports Program in New England, and was appointed for three Emmys.

Prior to WPRI-TV, Yianni was an adjunct sports broadcasting professor at the University of Rhode Island. Before that, he served as a sports anchor and reporter at WRIC-TV in Richmond, Virginia for 3 years 3 months (from Jul 2010 – Sep 2013), and at WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Maryland for 2 years( from 2007 – 2009).
