Aaron Brackett Work Experience
Brackett is working at KFOR as a meteorologist since he joined the station in September 2013. Prior to joining KFOR, he worked at WREX in his hometown of Rockford, Illinois, and KGUN in Tucson, Arizona. While he was in Indiana, he served as the Director of Valparaiso University’s Storm Intercept Team and took part in three 11-day storm chases on the Great Plains. In addition, he also interned with WGN’s Tom Skilling in Chicago where he earned useful forecasting experience.
Furthermore, he also served as a mentor and on-air personality for the inaugural year of VUTV while he was in university. In 2008, a rare January EF-3 tornado devastated northern Illinois, and for covering the tornado, Brackett earned national recognition on MSNBC. Brackett was able to secure his first on-air job during his senior year at NBC affiliate WREX where he forecasted weather and after working for one year, he was promoted to serving as the weekday morning meteorologist.
In addition, for Aaron’s coverage of a high-end EF-2 tornado that tore through Caledonia, Illinois, he was awarded an Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Award in 2011. He was also the first on the scene and the only meteorologist streaming the event live for almost two hours. In 2011, he relocated to Tucson and while he worked at KGUN, he forecasted anything from blizzards to record Monsoon rain.
Furthermore, after he saw Oklahoma’s worst severe weather outbreaks in 2013, he made the decision to end up in the nation’s heartland. A Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal was given to him by the American Meteorological Society.
