At about 2 years and 6 months old, Romeo was diagnosed with autism – this was after her parents noticed early signs. These included sleep difficulties at around 14 to 16 months and a strong tendency to seek sensory input like putting objects in her mouth. A pediatrician at first described these signs as normal development – concerns grew after she began preschool. Staff later said she could not stay due to safety reasons – this led to her diagnosis.

Over the years, Romeo has taken part in long-term support to help her development. Romeo has spent more than 22 years in speech therapy and about 15 years in occupational therapy. Even today, Romeo continues to receive therapeutic support as part of her ongoing growth and progress.
