Since 1995 she has worked as both an anchor and reporter. For Best On-Air Talent she received an Emmy from the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2022, 2019, and 2010.
For her reporting on missing children, and societal concerns, from Ground Zero on the 9/11 anniversary in 2002, and continuing coverage of breaking news events she has earned recognition. Her aim in reporting is to bring helpful information and resources in her weekly Don’t Waste Your Money series on WXYZ.
She has a passion in giving back to the community and promoting causes close to her heart – including Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), the Sky Foundation, the Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division, Make-A-Wish Michigan, Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, Make-A-Wish Michigan, Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, Grant Me Hope, Friends of Foster Kids, the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy’s early literacy program Reading and Rhythm on the Riverfront and Michigan Humane.

She graduated from the University of Georgia, where she studied at UGA’s Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and worked as a George Foster Peabody Awards Student Judge. While being involved in the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and a variety of campus activities and philanthropies Smith minored in Political Science and majored in Broadcast News. The Young Alumni Council honored her for the University of Georgia Alumni Society as the Senior Female of the Year before graduating.
