After that, her parents moved from New Hampshire to Pennsylvania. Amanda promptly dug up every fact she could find about the area, made arrangements to stay with a friend’s family, and presented her findings to her mom and dad where they congratulated her on her efforts, and suggested she channel her energy into journalism.
A few weeks after graduation, she started her first television news career at WTOL11 in Toledo, Ohio where she met her now-husband. It’s also where Amanda officially began her investigative career and through public records, she was able to uncover flaws in the state’s school vaccination tracking system and expose the City of Toledo’s fraudulent food expenses.
After a while, Amanda ultimately returned to Pennsylvania to work in Harrisburg at ABC27, where she was a founding member of the station’s first investigative team. She also initiated a weekly “Restaurant Report” feature, along with the market’s first television station podcast, called On Deadline. Amanda carried on to hold local leaders responsible through reporting on public expenses, costly towing practices, nursing home violations, efforts to skirt laws governing transparency, and gaps in the Capitol’s system for reporting sexual harassment. She has been honored with the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accounts “Truth in Finances Award, along with regional recognition from the Associated Press and the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards.
