Sullins worked at the National Weather Service while she was still at Arizona University and has stayed attached to her alma mater by presently operating on the advisory committee for the Hydrology and Atmospheric Science Department. She began her career at KVIA-TV in El Paso, Texas. In 2007 and 2008 Sullins archived two back-to-back Texas Associated Press Newscasters Awards for Best Weathercasts.
She earned recognition at the Texas Legislature for these awards in May 2009 when a house solution was handed over in her honor. Additionally, she volunteered her time to assist the struggles of the El Paso Extreme Weather Task Force, taught two semesters of meteorology courses at Texas University El Paso Center for Lifelong Learning, and wrote a weather activities book to help train young children about harsh weather safety. Sullins obtained the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Newscast Meteorologist designation, the most elevated seal attainable for a television weatherman.
She’s a five-time Emmy Winner. She achieved 2010, 2013, and 2014 the Rocky Mountain Emmy for Best Weathercast, and also the 2013 and 2016 Emmys for best On-Camera Weather Talent. In the summer of 2011, she was asked to go to New York and take over on Good Morning America where she reported the biggest heat wave of the year across the east coast. She has taken over on GMA several times since. During her free time, she likes spending time with her husband, two kids, and her long-haired small dachshunds, Lilly and Willis.
