She was first given a position behind the scenes but her talents were recognized quickly and she became a traffic reporter. McGill was then promoted to general assignment reporter, then morning reporter, and eventually, became the weekend anchor.
Before that, she worked at WTQR-WSJS Radio in Winston-Salem, North Carolina from 1991 to 1994. Prior to that, McGill worked at WDXZ Radio in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina from 1989 to 1991.
