While working at KABB FOX 29, she has nominated for an Emmy for a documentary she did that highlighted the city’s Martin Luther King Jr. March, which is the largest in the country. In addition, for the same documentary, she won a National Association of Black Journalists award.
While she was a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, she was a member of the co-ed cheerleading squad and cheered for the Texas Longhorns football team and men’s basketball team. King also ran hurdles for two years on the Field team and the UT Track. She began her broadcasting career in Austin where she worked at the CBS-affiliate serving as a reporter in addition to serving as the Assistant News Director for Texas Student Television’s KVR News. Furthermore, after she earned her Bachelor of Art in Journalism, she worked at KTXS in Abilene and while she was there, she won a Texas Associated Press Award for deadline editing.
In addition, she has also worked at the CBS affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma and while she was there, she covered a number of stories ranging from devastating wildfires that torched hundreds of homes to tornadoes. Her most notable moment was when she had a live interview with Don Lemon on CNN about a racially motivated shooting spree in Tulsa. Italy is her birth home and she has deep-seated roots in Arkansas. Furthermore, she is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. During her leisure time, she enjoys spending ample time with her family, and, eating at hole-in-the-wall restaurants.
