Barrett began his broadcasting profession in the early 80s, although not many people saw those first newscasts live from his parents’ back porch in Sarasota, Fla. while in college, he worked behind the scenes for KCCI-TV. He would later work at Fox News Channel and CBS News, both in New York City, with a brief stint in Los Angeles chasing around stars, followed by a few years in the Rockies at KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs.
Barrett also worked as a technology reporter at WDAF-TV in Kansas City, KLAS-TV in Las Vegas, and a second stint in Colorado Springs for KKTV-TV. He was lucky enough to earn an Emmy for “Best Newscast,” and was appointed “Best Twitterer” for 3 years in a row in Colorado Springs by readers of two separate newspapers. Barrett has also received, or was a runner up, for “Favorite TV Personality” in both Montana and Michigan. In 2019, he was also titled a runner-up to “Anchor of the Year” by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
