Before that, he spent two years at WLNE-TV 6 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, United States as a staff meteorologist. Walsh also spent 18 months at NEWS VISION 2 as a staff meteorologist. From October 2013 to July 2017, he was a Lt. Colonel – U.S. Special Operations Command at United States Special Operations Command. Before that, Walsh was the chief of Public Affairs at the US Air Force Reserve from January 2002 to October 2013.
Prior to that, he was also the public affairs officer at the U.S. Navy Reserve from December 1993 to January 2002. Throughout his career, Walsh has received numerous awards including two Emmys, five Telly Awards, the U.S. Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Associated Press Best Weathercaster, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal among others. He also received the American Meteorological Society Certification and Seal of Approval, as well as the National Weather Association Certification and Seal of Approval. His most interesting assignment was covering Hurricane Hugo, a News assignment to South America, Italy, and Israel, a Naval deployment to Bulgaria, and Air Force deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
