It was in high school that he got his first taste for on-air news where he served as the anchor of the school’s weekly show at a Salt Lake area TV station.
Carlson has also been awarded several awards ever since he started his journalism career. For instance, he won a regional Emmy for his report titled “Spice in the City.” He also enclosed a young black detective who infiltrated the KKK called Ron Stallworth. His report became the catalyst for the “BlacKkKlansman”, a film that won an Oscar award and was directed by Spike Lee.
Additionally, he has also reported on every topic of interest including jumping out of an airplane or going 57 mph down the Olympic skeleton track and an elderly couple discovered they lost all they had in a Utah wildfire. In addition to that, he had also spent some time working for the former Utah Jazz Bear.
