Working at the station, he traveled extensively where he was covering Queen Elizabeth’s visit to the Bahamas, and the Statue of Liberty Centennial located in New York. Additionally, he covered the story of a Delta plane crash in Dalla. The year 1987 saw him move to WPLG in Miami. While there, he was covering Central American issues. Later on, he went to Panama during the overthrow of General Manuel Noriega and also visited Cuba where he was covering a series on the Guantanamo Naval base.

Granda, later on, moved to New York in the year 1990 where he worked for WABC-TV. While here, he was a fill-in anchor for the Eyewitness News this Morning. Additionally, he was the first reporter on the scene and also on-air during the World Trade Center bombing.
