A few blocks from Pergram’s residence in Alexandria, Virginia, a gunman opened fire at a baseball practice for a Republican member of Congress ahead of the annual Congressional game in the year 2017. He unfortunately critically wounded the then-House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise(R-LA) and injured several others. Pergram led the breaking news coverage and followed the story throughout Scalise’s recovery.

Prior to joining the FNC team, he was working with the Capitol News Connection where he was serving the station as a reporter. In addition, he was also working as a producer and an anchor for NPR in Washington which is in addition to serving as a Senate producer for C-SPAN. Chad lick-started his career working with the WKRC-AM team in Cincinnati where he was serving the station as a reporter.
Additionally, he was also working with WKRC-TV, an ABC affiliate station at the time, before joining the Cincinnati Public Radio-operated WMUB-FM located in Oxford, Ohio. While at the WKRC-AM station, he was covering the first congressional race of then-little-known John Boehner who would go on to later serve as Speaker of the House. The year 1992 saw him being named as Best Radio Reporter by the Ohio Associated Press.
