Prior to joining the station, Helms worked at KREX 5/FOX4 News in Grand Junction Colorado starting as a multimedia journalist where she set up and conducted interviews and found new stories among other duties. She then moved to being a news anchor and producer in December 2016 where she anchored the 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. newscasts. In August 2017, Helms became the news anchor and executive producer on the same station, anchoring the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts till September 2018.
Before that, Helms worked at Texas Roadhouse in Plattsburgh, New York as a key holder from May 2014 to July 2015. During her time there, she resolved guest complaints, managed shifts, opened and closed the restaurant, and filled out the end-of-the-day paperwork.
