Cheryl Burton is an American 13-time Emmy Award-winning anchor/reporter working for ABC7 Chicago where she anchors the ABC 7 Eyewitness News at 5 PM.  Burton used to be a contributing anchor and in June 2018 was promoted to anchor of the station’s 10 PM newscast.

Prior to joining ABC7 Chicago News, she was working with the KWCH-TV team located in Wichita, Kansas where she was working as a weeknight anchor for the 6 PM News. While there, she was recognized for her role in a campaign that was instrumental in reducing the number of low birth weight babies and infant deaths. Additionally, she also hosted the talk show “Viewpoint” between the years 1990 and 1992.

The year 1990 saw her serving as a General Assignment Reporter at the WMBD-TV located in Peoria, Illinois. She kick-started her broadcasting career working with the WGN-TV team in Chicago. There, she was serving as a co-anchor of the nationally syndicated weekly series “MBR” The Minority Business Report” in the year 1989.

Jim proposed to her as they were seated together under the moon after Burton had finished a dance number with the Honey Bears. This proposal was matching the first time they had met and coincidentally matched the dates with the Super Bowl XIX party in Chicago.
