Before joining the WCNC, he worked at WJRT in Flint, Michigan as a midday and evening meteorologist from June 2016 to July 2018. Prior to that, Mulcahy worked at WRGT WKEF in Dayton, Ohio as a morning meteorologist and reporter from December 2011 to March 2016. He started as a weekend meteorologist and live weekday feature reporter for the morning news. By August 2012, he became a morning meteorologist and he grew a lot in the next years in the station. Mulcahy earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal during his time there.
Before joining the station, he worked at WKRC-TV as a freelance meteorologist in 2013 for less than one year. Mulcahy worked as a weekend meteorologist and weekday reporter at KCAU Channel 9 in Sioux City, Iowa from January 2010 to December 2011. This was his first on-air job and he covered severe weather while at the station. Mulcahy received an AP Award while working at WJRT, for Best Weather Forecast. He also won the Mid-South Emmy recently, for weather many years such as the Weather IQ segments in the year 2023.
