Christana Kay is an American 2x Emmy Award-winning Meteorologist working for WAPT-TV in Jackson, Mississippi, serving the station as the weekday morning meteorologist. She has been working with this station since joining in August 2019.

Kay is a Buford native who has lived in Mississippi for several years. Her passion for weather began in childhood, when she chose to watch local meteorologists after school instead of cartoons. Alongside this early interest, she was actively involved in dance, basketball, competitive figure skating, playing the clarinet, and performing in color guard. Her fascination with meteorology grew much stronger in 2008 after an EF3 tornado struck downtown Atlanta.
Kay holds a Master’s in Professional Meteorology and Climatology and a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Meteorology, with a minor in Communications, which she pursued at Mississippi State University. She is an alumnus of the Famous Maroon Band’s color guard and clarinet sections. In recognition of her excellence in meteorology, she was awarded the Associated Press honor for Best Collegiate Weathercast in 2017 and the CBM Seal of approval in 2023 by the American Meteorological Society.

Military Career
Kay began her career as a US Army All-American Colorguard member in 2014, where she performed in the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX, for millions of soldiers across the country and overseas. She was also in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade twice, spinning with the Macy’s Great American Marching Band.
Current Role
Kay serves as the weekday morning meteorologist for 16 WAPT News and is happy to be back in Jackson. Previously, Kay served as a meteorologist at WJTV 12 News and had interned at FOX 5 Atlanta, WAGA-TV from May 2016 to July 2016. Outside of work, Kay enjoys staying active at the gym, shopping for the best deals, and exploring Mississippi’s hidden gems. She’s also passionate about talking to schools about weather, attending pageants, and cheering on both Mississippi State and the New England Patriots football teams.

Kay made her mark in the Miss America Circuit through the Miss Mississippi Corporation, holding titles as Miss Magnolia 2018 and Miss Northland 2019. Her platform, Eyes on the Sky, focuses on promoting severe weather awareness and preparedness in Mississippi schools. In 2019, Christana was awarded the second runner-up Miracle Maker Award for raising over $1,300 for Batson Children’s Hospital. Additionally, she was honored with the Betty Jean Memorial Hospitable Scholarship and the Miss America 1986 Susan Akin Scholarship for placing in the top 15.
