He was afterward promoted to a news anchor for the weekend evening newscasts and the weekend morning newscasts prior to heading the weekday newscasts. At WIS-TV, Melvin also created several series that covered problems affecting education and the homeless in Columbia, among others. In July 2008, Melvin left WIS-TV to accept a job at NBC’s owned-and-operated station in Washington, D.C., WRC-TV, where he anchored the weekend evening newscasts.
