Also, Johnson was among the longest-running anchors in Pittsburgh TV history, alongside Peggy Finnegan. The duo was named Broadcasters of the Year for 2016 by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters. They also received the 2015 Press Club of Western Pennsylvania’s President’s Award for career achievement in journalism, although Peggy Finnegan retired in 2020. When Johnson joined WPXI, he anchored the noon news and filed reports for the 6 pm news. He became an evening news anchor in 1989. Johnson has served the station from 1985 to date.
Before that, Johnson served in different stations in Jacksonville, Chattanooga, Orlando, Gainesville, and Atlanta. Jackson has covered significant stories which include, the Oklahoma City bombings, space shuttle launches, Democratic National Convention in 1988, the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, and the Quecreek Mine rescue, which was his favorite because he covered it from the start to finish.
