She started working at the station in September 2014 and was named chief meteorologist in July 2021. As a chief meteorologist, she has won several Emmys for Best Weathercast and Weather Anchor in Michigan. Bacca has also received an award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for Best Weathercast. Additionally, she was selected as the only broadcast meteorologist in the country to take part in the National Severe Storms Laboratory Hazardous Weather Testbed study. The study’s aim is to test the next generation of tornado and severe storm warnings. Currently, she is the 1st female chief meteorologist in West Michigan.
Throughout her time at the station, Bacca has covered high water levels, blizzards, floods, and some tornado events including the August 20th, 2016 tornado outbreak. Each fall and spring, she welcomes numerous elementary school students into a real-life TV studio for them to get an exclusive Weather Experience. This program educates kids on all things severe weather with hands-on experiences. Every student gets to practice their newly found knowledge and see what it’s like to be on television at the end of the program.
