Eric enjoys featuring inspirational San Diegans, reporting on medical advancements, telling stories that help families, and covering youth sports.

He says it is a privilege for him to wake up San Diegans each morning with a smile and a story to tell. He strives to get people out the door feeling informed and on a positive note. When he meets people out in the community, it’s rewarding to hear that CBS8 Mornings is an integral part of their daily routine. Eric earned his 8th Emmy award for Best Anchor in the region, along with an Emmy for Best Medical story in 2012.

Kahnert was also nominated for Best Sports Anchor. CBS8 won the coveted Golden Mike Award due to Eric’s breaking news coverage on the anchor desk. The first time a San Diego station won the award over a Los Angeles station in 14 years was when The Radio & TV News Association awarded the show the Best 60 Minute Newscast in Southern California. Kahnert has also been by the San Diego Union-Tribune numerous times for Best Anchor.

Previously before joining News 8, Eric worked at KMGH, the ABC affiliate in Denver, Colorado where he served as the main evening anchor. While in the station he received numerous Emmy awards for anchoring and reporting. Viewers turned to Kahnert for some investigative, weather, Colorado’s biggest news, and sports stories, including the numerous destructive and deadly storms and wildfires, and Aurora theater shooting trial.

He also worked at  KUSA, the NBC affiliate in Denver where he served as the weekend anchor. His live reports were featured on Dateline NBC and CNN. Eric also worked at KSTP, the ABC affiliate in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he served as an anchor. Kahnert is always dedicated to serving the community and is proud of his partnership with Special Olympics. He is the first journalist in the country to mentor and trains developmentally disabled adults to become on-air local news reporters and both reporters won the Emmy Award for their work

Due to his dedication, he won an Award from ARC, a non-profit supporting the full inclusion of the developmentally disabled. Eric is involved with MDA San Diego as an organizer, fundraiser, and emcee of various events. Kahnert enjoyed emceeing some of San Diego’s most prestigious fundraisers, galas, and events. When he is not working he is enjoying himself with his family he is coaching hockey teams, and youth baseball, playing in a pick-up hockey game, or being stuck in a sand trap while attempting to play golf.
