She earned credits from college for storm-chasing with a small class from the school, driving three thousand miles in ten days, after the Nebraska to New Mexico storms.
Thornton worked at Maxar Technologies as a meteorologist forecasting crop futures. She followed monsoonal patterns that affected sugar, global coffee, and cocoa production. Later, she changed her career and went into broadcasting, in 2021, and has been there ever since. Thornton is happy to serve the Central Texas community by forecasting the ever-changing weather there.
