At that time, Charlie Adams was the sports director. One year later, Adams left the station and Kerr became the sports director. Since then, he has had interviews in other markets especially in San Diego and South Bend, Indiana, but he chose to stay in Bakersfield. At his urging, KBAK debuted the popular weekly show called Hometown Sports during the football season in 1987. Prior to joining the station, he worked at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina. Before that, he worked at KURL TV in Billings, Montana.
Kerr serves as an emcee at different events around Kern County and has also taught broadcasting classes at Garces High School and Bakersfield Christian. Additionally, he hosts a weekday show on ESPN radio from noon to 1 p.m. Kerr says that he loves seeing people compete and seeing athletes show their true emotions in both defeat and victory. He adds that working in Bakersfield is a blessing and he can call most of the athletes and coaches he covers, friends.
