He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and spent most of his boyhood growing up in Alpharetta, GA. Griffin developed a particular love for extreme weather following an F3 tornado that struck Nashville, TN in April 1998. His dad was caught downtown during that tornado and, thankfully, stayed safe. But the physics and effects of strong tornadoes hit a chord with Griffin ever since. He began his broadcasting in Columbus, MS in September 2016.
Griffin graduated from Mississippi State University in May 2017. After that, he started working full-time as a broadcast meteorologist at WJTV 12 in Jackson, Mississippi. While gaining experience reporting on numerous severe weather events, Griffin obtained his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist distinction from the American Meteorological Society in November 2018.
