Howard Stern born Howard Allan Stern is an American Media Personality and Broadcaster well known for his radio show called The Howard Stern Show. Since 2006, he has broadcasted on Sirius XM Radio. Stern was also a nominee of the Golden Raspberry Award for “Worst New Star” (1988) and Golden Satellite Award for “Best Male Actor Performance in a Comedy or Musical” (1998).

While in school, he formed a band called the Electric Comicbook, on keyboards and vocals. He declined a place in Elmira College in 1972, so that he could pursue a degree in communications at Boston University. Stern joined the university’s School of Public Communications in 1974 and then did a diploma at the Radio Engineering Institute of Electronics in July 1975. This earned him a first-class radio-telephone operator license, which a requirement for all radio broadcasters and was issued by the Federal Communications Commission.

After his graduation, Stern accepted an offer to work at WRNW which is a progressive rock station located in Briarcliff Manor, New York. At first, he was not sure of his talent and he questioned his future writing that he freaked out and got very nervous that he was not good enough. He took up a marketing role at a New York advertising agency called Benton & Bowles which he later quit without prior notice so he could get a position in the creative department. There, he only stayed for three hours then got fired because the personnel department realized that he was a quitter. Stern later joined Queens where he worked as a radio salesman where he advertised time with no success.

Stern started working at WRNW where he agreed to cover shifts of during the 1976 Christmas holidays. The director of the station was impressed with his professional approach and reliability, and this made him hire Stern full-time for six days a week working a four-hour midday shift for $96 per week. Months later, he became the production director of the station until November 1977 when he was promoted to the station’s program director and his salary was increased to $250 per week. Stern decided to rent a room in a monastery in Armonk, New York in order to save money.

On 2nd March 1981, Stern began hosting mornings at WWDC in Washington. While he was moving from Detroit, he spent a few weeks planning out a new show and was determined that it would be successful because the station had given him a good chance to work in New York City. He was a co-host with a sense of humor to relate to current events and news. Stern was then paired with Robin Quivers, who is a former news reporter at WFBR and a nurse in the air force. In January 1982, his morning show was rated the second highest in the city.

Stern announced in a press conference in 1985, that he was signing a 5-year contract with Infinity Broadcasting which was worth $500,000, to work as a host in the afternoons at WXRK. In April 1988, he announced that he was returning to Saturday night TV after signing a deal with CBS to compete with NBC, Saturday Night Live and Fox, MADtv. Stern’s show, The Howard Stern Radio Show, is an hour-long program which aired mostly on CBS affiliates and was made of taped highlights from the radio show. The show started to lose affiliates after its debut on 22nd August 1988, after 2 episodes because the local broadcasters were concerned with the risque content.

The number of stations carrying the show dropped to 55 by June 1999. The final show aired on 17th January 2001 after 3 seasons to about 30 stations. Stern became famous because of his rants against Palestinian minorities in the Middle East, in October 2015. He denounced them as people that do not exist or did not live there. Stern called Arabs dogs in his comments, which were denounced by the international press as racist. He inducted Bon Jovi in April 2018, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In May 2020, he admonished supporters of Trump who listened to his SiriusXM show, saying that President Trump hated his own supporters. Stern renewed his contract with SiriusXM in December 2020, where he was to continue producing his show for 5 more years. He said in June 2022, that he wanted to run for president of the United States in the year 2024, if at all Donald Trump is nominated for the Republican once again.

His father on the other hand served in the U.S. Army in California during the war, and on Long Island.
