In March 2025, Berry shared that he was diagnosed with head and neck cancer, a curable and treatable form of cancer. The tumor was in the back of his throat and spread to his lymph nodes. His primary physician caught it early, advising him to undergo a CT scan, PET scan, and a biopsy.
Berry said that his treatment would keep him off the air for multiple weeks. He underwent seven weeks of daily radiation therapy and six-hour sessions of chemotherapy for over six consecutive weeks. The cancer was detected early after he noticed a persistent neck lump around Thanksgiving 2024.
Following treatment, Berry couldn’t eat solid food for more than a month, forcing him onto a liquid diet and resulting in a weight loss of more than 35 pounds. In April 2026, he decided to share his story to raise awareness as April is Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month.
