A routine screening mammogram triggered her breast cancer in April 2021. She didn’t expect a breast cancer diagnosis, as she felt completely healthy and showed no physical symptoms. Also, she had a history of benign breast abnormalities (fibroadenomas), which were monitored since she was 16.
The initial biopsy showed the cancer was stage 0 or 1 since it was not yet invasive. She underwent a double mastectomy on June 22, 2021, at Premier Health. During the operation, doctors found out that the cancer was slightly more advanced and upgraded her diagnosis to Stage 1 invasive breast cancer (ER/PR+, HER2-).
Jarosik finished a 12-week course of intense chemotherapy. By January 2022, she had undergone 28 radiation treatments. Also, she took targeted long-term cancer-prevention medications like Tamoxifen, which caused structural issues in her uterus. In 2022, she underwent a hysterectomy to reduce the future risk of uterine or ovarian cancer.
Jarosik chronicled her health battle publicly through a series called “Jamie’s Journey” on WDTN. Following her ordeal, she has continually advocated for early screenings on WDTN and her public forums, including Facebook.

She opted not to hide her bald head, frequently choosing comfortable caps, hats, or headscarves while at home or out in public running errands.
Jarosik wore a wig while on-air at WDTN so that she could remain familiar to her viewers. After teartment, her eyelashes and eyebrows grew back first, followed by a slow, steady regrowth of the hair on her head. When her natural hair grew back thick enough to style, she decided to permanently transition to a short pixie haircut.
