He received an Emmy Award for his anchoring on the heartbreaking Marjory Stoneman Douglas secondary School shooting and the Hollywood Hills nursing home disaster where 12 seniors passed away after Hurricane Irma. Out of all anchors in South Florida, he is the only anchor who reported the church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. Strader was there in Orlando the day after the terrorist shooting inside Pulse nightclub. He was speaking with the victims and sharing their stories with viewers. And also he went to Cuba to report on former President Obama’s historic trip.
He calls South Florida home for over a decade though he is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. His anchoring has taken him places like Washington D.C., Cleveland, Indiana, Tulsa, Austin, and Miami. Strader has won many awards such as the anchoring. Strader was recognized as the Best News Anchor by the Miami New Times in 2018. Additionally, he received the Media Excellence award from CCNN Live for Best News Anchor in 2016.
Not only does he report, but he’s also known for the hard work he does in the community. The education fund of Miami-Dade gave him the award of distinction for Media Coverage of Public Education. Strader was named one of South Florida’s most powerful and influential black people by the legacy magazine. He is a mentor to many young journalists, 100 Black Men of South Florida, a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, a role model mentor for 5000 role models of excellence, and Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity, Inc.
