Jeff Lawson is an American Chief Meteorologist working at 13NewsNow. He never planned on ever being on television, Jeff knew that he would work in science , he was torn in between becoming a meteorologist or a chemical engineer but settled on studying forecasting. Jeff studied in Penn State the top school in the country for forecasting.
Jeff Lawson worked for the campus Weather Service, providing forecasts for radio stations throughout Pennsylvania. His most memorable forecast was when emergency planners who were handling the three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant meltdown called asking which areas to evacuate because of radiation fallout.
After Jeff graduated he went to work for Accu-Weather, his job was to call weathercasters who were not meteorologist and tell them what to say on television that night. Later he left Accu-weather to work for a company called Weather center, here he did the same forecasting for clients including Exxon’s offshore oil rigs.
His first job on tv was at WWBT/TV 12 in Richmond he stayed for 4 years before getting a job at WTTG, the FOX station in Washington, D.C as weekend Meteorologist . While in Washington his wife told him to apply at 13NewsNow where he is now the chief Meteorologist for 29 years.
