As a sports director, Cook creates and hosts a weekly 30-minute Friday night high school football show, produces and anchors an annual NFL Draft special, and supports the news team during severe weather events. Before joining WAPT-TV in September 2019, Cook served as the weekend sports anchor/reporter at WLTX in Columbia, SC. During his time there, Cook covered Clemson football’s national championships in 2016 and 2018, South Carolina’s women’s basketball championship in 2017, and various major league teams.
More recently, he reported from Atlanta on Super Bowl LIII and from Charlotte during NBA All-Star Weekend. His coverage also includes the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals, two NCAA men’s basketball tournaments, including the Final Four, and two Masters golf tournaments. Over the past three years, he’s focused extensively on SEC and ACC athletics. Previously, Cook served at KTVF Fairbanks, Alaska, where he also kick-started his sports anchoring career. During his time at the station, Cook reported on a diverse range of sporting events, including the legendary Midnight Sun Baseball game, WCHA Division I hockey, GNAC Division II athletics, the renowned Iditarod sled dog race, and the unique high school and community sports scene in Alaska, which has shaped him into a versatile and well-rounded sports journalist.
Moreover, Cook has interviewed renowned sports professionals including former pro football player Bruce Smith, former head football coach Marty Schottenheimer, 4-time Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Champion Lance Mackey, and basketball icon Magic Johnson.
