Barnes first joined the WCBITV News team in 2002 as a reporter. He held this role until August 2005, when he exited the station to join Mississippi University for Women as a College Recruiter. His responsibilities were to recruit students to Mississippi University for Women in the southern Mississippi territory and follow up through he admission process.
His next stop was at Independent News Network in Davenport, Iowa, where he reported behind the newsdesk as a reporter. His comeback to the station came in December 2013, when he rejoined the WCBI-TV News team as an anchor and assistant news director. Barnes’s time with WCBI-TV now spans nearly 20 years, with his award-winning coverage making him a trusted figure among WCBI viewers. Before his current role at WCBI-TV, Barnes served as the weekend anchor and a reporter at WLBT in Jackson, Mississippi, a position he held for one year.
