Heath-Sands launched her television career in the year 1989 at WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia – there she worked as a community service director and weather presenter. After leaving the station, Heath-Sands joined a FOX affiliate that already knew her through her work in Macon. By then, Heath-Sands had decided to move away from weather broadcasting – her first role in Albany combined news anchoring with community outreach responsibilities.

Heath-Sands says that her most memorable moment as a journalist was helping anchor the coverage of the burial and funeral of President Jimmy Carter. She describes it as an important experience because it allowed her and the WALB team to keep the community informed during a historic event.

Heath-Sands has enjoyed singing and performing since she was a child.
