Taylor is the former sports director of WAVE 3 News in Louisville, Kentucky. He filled in as just the fourth 11 p.m. sports anchor in WAVE history in January of 2002.  Kent came to WAVE in July of 2000, following working six years as a Sports Reporter/Photographer at WLKY. He covered sports in his hometown since 1994. Kent reported every Kentucky Derby since 1994, UK’s 1996 National Championship, UofL’s 2005 trip to the Gator Bowl, UofL’s trip to the Final Four in 2005, UofL’s 2006 Orange Bowl win, Western Kentucky’s 2002 NCAA Division 1-AA National Championship, the 2001 Brickyard 400, and UK’s trip to the 1998 Outback Bowl.

He covered UofL’s Sugar Bowl victory over Florida, and the Card’s NCAA Championship run. Kent also was there when the Cards and Rick Pitino visited President Barack Obama in the White House. He also traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to report the Elmont and Preakness Stakes, New York for the Belmont Stakes, including American Pharoah’s run to the Triple Crown in 2015. Kent was the frontman for WAVE’s reportage of the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club.

Kent also served as the play-by-play voice of the Arena 2 Louisville Fire and served as a sideline reporter on ESPNU for two UofL football spring games. Since 2010, he served as the host of “The Scotty Davenport Show” for Bellarmine basketball head coach Scotty Davenport. In 2010-11, the Knights earned the Division II National Championship. Kent also served as the host of “Inside the Cards,” a weekly show produced by WAVE 3 News, alongside basketball coach Rick Pitino and UofL football coach Bobby Petrino. He also served as the play-by-play voice for the Card’s two exhibition basketball games in 2015 and 2014.

Kent was named “Kentucky TV Sportscaster of the Year” by the Associated Press in 2015, 2012, 2009, and 2008. He also earned Best Sports Play-by-Play in 2015 and 2016. In 2016 and 2017  he was voted “Best TV Sportscaster” and in 2013 “Best Sports Reporter” by Louisville Magazine. In 2014 he was titled Kentucky Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, or NSSA.

Kent is on the selection committee for the Louisville Catholic Sports Hall of Fame and the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame. In addition to that, he is currently coaching his daughter’s basketball team and spending some time with his family.
