He first worked at WMUR in the year 1998 – he used to do weather under the name “Kevin Joseph” and he mostly appeared on the weekend newscasts. Skarupa has also done weather for WKRN in Nashville, WPBF in West Palm Beach, Florida, and KIMT-TV in Mason City, Iowa.
Skarupa once said that the favorite part of his job is visiting schools and talking to students about weather. Also, he added that the hardest part is waking up around 1 AM. He has shared old storm maps like the hurricane of the year 1938 that destroyed many trees in New England – he also explained how meteorologists are often seen as the science experts at their stations.
The NH Soccer Association honored Skarupa as Boys Competitive Coach of the Year in April 2023. He also holds both the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal and the AMS Television Seal of Approval. When asked what makes a successful broadcaster, he simply said “Be yourself – everyone needs to find what makes them unique”. His talk left a strong impression, and it was a memorable moment having him and other alumni back on campus.
