Kurtis Ming is an American Eleven-time Emmy Award-winner working for CBS13 News serving the station as a consumer investigative reporter and anchor. He has been working with this station since 2003.

In September 2010, during his international travels, he experienced a major earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, and found himself reporting for a national audience back home. The state got rid of its problem-plagued doctor’s diversion program after the California Medical Board allowed doctors with drug and alcohol problems to continue treating patients, were exposed.

Ming has reported everything from the Scott Peterson murder trial to the gubernatorial campaign of a porn star since arriving in Sacramento. He has investigated unscrupulous businesses and revealed problems in state and local government resulting in the passing of new laws. He’s also reported on tensions between North and South Korea from the DMZ, terrorism from Pakistan, and traveled to Mexico to help viewers with a timeshare refund. From an assignment in the Gulf Coast, he has reported on natural disasters following Hurricane Katrina to trips to the shores of Phuket, Thailand, and Samoa tracking progress following the tsunamis that affected each of those countries. Ming has a degree in broadcast journalism from Emerson College in Boston.

In 1996 the South San Francisco native began his broadcast career as a radio reporter and anchor at WERS-FM in Boston. Before Reporting for KRCR-TV in Redding, California, and KTVN-TV in Reno, Nevada he worked behind the scenes for Dateline NBC, KCOP-TV in Los Angeles, and KGO-TV in San Francisco. His work has also been honored by  California Journalism Award, the Radio and Television News Directors Association, and the National Press Club.

Ming was selected by the Radio Television Digital News Foundation as a fellow to travel to Europe and meet with media figures and visit the EU and NATO in Belgium, business, and top-level German political in 2015. In 2013 he traveled with a delegation of American journalists to Pakistan as an East-West Center fellow. He graduated from the FBI’s Citizens’ Academy in 2011.

He was honored by the Consumer Federation of California as the Consumer Journalist of the Year in 2016. Ming grew up in South San Francisco and his ideal scenario for a day off is Relaxing on the couch. He decided to be a reporter/anchor because of The Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989.

He says apart from working in TV news he would do something involving world travel. Ming’s most memorable story he’s covered at CBS13/CW31 is the aftermath of Katrina. His favorite season is summer he also loves Northern California because he loves the beauty of the microclimates and the fact you can be from the beach to the snow in 2-hours. Ming’s best vacation ever was a trip to Southeast Asia.
