She is also learning that natives of the Tri-Cities and the neighboring areas use this phrase as well! Laurel looks ahead to forecasting the weather extremes that the Appalachian region has to present as she starts her broadcast meteorology profession.
Growing up in New England, Laurel has come to love forecasting snow, but she also has an interest in severe weather which led her to pursue a degree in meteorology. While in university, Laurel served as the President of the Millersville University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and often publicized weather video forecasts from the MU Weather Deck. She also was active in the honors college and wrote a thesis focusing on broadcast meteorology. Laurel is now professionally involved in the National American Meteorological Society.
