After traveling to Cuba and Haiti, she reported the news in depth. Throughout her journalism career, she has covered many hurricanes such as Irma, Andrew, and Charley. Furthermore, she reported the Super Bowl championship, Stanley Cup championship, as well as the Republican National Convention. Hurtado also anchored and hosted numerous live events such as the NASA space shuttle launches, Martin Luther King, and Gasparilla parades.

She likes working with her community where she has been a keynote speaker at many local events like the Hispanic Man and Woman of the Year awards sponsored by Tampa’s Hispanic Heritage, Inc.  She supports the Face of Courage non-profit as well as the My Hope Chest which funds reconstruction for women who do not have insurance. And every year she donates proceeds from A Shoot for a Cure to the Florida Hospital Foundation to fund mammograms for women without insurance.
