Prior to joining the station, she worked at KSPR-TV in Springfield, Missouri as a morning and midday meteorologist from June 2012 to June 2016. Before that, Slater worked at FOX 40 WDBD-TV in Jackson, Mississippi starting as a morning meteorologist where she worked from February 2009 to June 2012. She was later added to the role of a Co-Host of Fox 40 A.M. from January 2011 to June 2012. While working at the station, she covered many severe weather events such as the tornado outbreaks from 2011 striking the southeast, the MS tornado, winter storms, and hurricane coverage. She also reported on a major flooding along the Mississippi River.
Before joining FIX 40, Slater worked at Weather Central as a graphics assembler from August 2008 to January 2009. Her responsibility was to prepare text outlines to accompany weather map graphics made for TV clients. Additionally, she worked at WKOW TV Channel 27 in Madison, Wisconsin as an intern from May 2008 to January 2009. From March 2007 to January 2008, she interned at Noaa National Weather Service. She also worked as an intern at WISN TV Channel 12 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from September 2006 to December 2006.
Her interest in weather began while living in Milwaukee. Whenever bad storms brewed, she would quickly run outside to take snapshots with her camera. Slater has the National Weather Association TV Weathercaster Seal of Approval #1604075 and is part of the American Meteorological Society.
