At the station, he co-produces and field anchors monthly in-depth specials on a wide variety of high-impact topics ranging from climate change to politics to sports. He also traveled to Puerto Rico to cover the immediate fallout of Hurricane Maria.
Prior to joining WFTS, he served as a morning news anchor at Heart Television from June 2010 to July 2016. Before that, he worked as a news anchor/investigative reporter at Water Broadcasting Corp for 4 years. Previously, he served as a reporter at WRAL from March 2003 to March 2006. Paul came to WRAL from Waterman Broadcasting Corp where he served as a reporter for 3 years.
He began his broadcast career at WFXB-TV where he served as a reporter from September 1999 to March 2000. In 2003, he spent a month in Iraq and Kuwait, covering the war alongside the 82nd Airborne Division. He also spent two weeks in the middle of the Sunni Triangle where hostilities against U.S. troops were starting to intensify. Moreover, LaGrone then took viewers inside one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces and ventured. Alongside soldiers as they uncovered an underground bunker full of Iraqi intelligence.

LaGrone has won three Associated Press awards recognizing his writing and investigative work. In 2007, he won a Regional Edward R. Murrow award for investigating child pornography on charity-donated computers. Additionally, in 2004, he was nominated for an Emmy for “Best Spot News Coverage” in a case where he and his photographer helped find a missing boy. He has also written and produced segments that hold politicians accountable for what they say. In 2015 his political journalism was nominated for an Emmy.

His journalism journey has taken him to major news events around the state and the world. He is excited to be back home in Tampa where both sides of his family live. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Katie, and their two boys, Jacob and Lucas.
