Couture is a former United States Army sergeant, former collegiate and Greco-Roman wrestler, former United States Army sergeant, and actor. While in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) field, he received three UFC Heavyweight Champions, an interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, the UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament winner, and two UFC Light Heavyweight Champions. In addition to that, he also holds two UFC championship titles and is the first of eight fighters to do so in two different divisions alongside Georges St-Pierre, B.J. Penn, Amanda Nunes, Conor McGregor, Henry Cejudo, Daniel Cormier, and Jon Jones.

Randy also had the most title reigns in the UFC his last fight being with Lyoto Machida. As a MMA fighter, he is one of the few MMA fighters who regained a title he had lost three times. Randy was also an Olympic wrestling alternate and worked at Oregon State University serving as a strength and conditioning coach and as an assistant wrestling coach. In addition to that, he also started a training camp for fighters named “Team Quest” alongside Dan Henderson and Matt Lindland and headed by coach Robert Folis. In 2010, he appeared in The Expendables taking the role of Toll Road reprising the role in the 2023, 2014, and 2012 sequels. In 2012, he appeared in Hijacked and took the role of hard-bitten cop Paul Ross alongside Dominic Purcell.
