Moreover, Henry was the first African-American to hold the position of Sports Director at a television station in South Carolina.
Apart from that, he conducted a play-by-play for an ABC telecast of a college football game between South Carolina State and Grambling while working for WPDE.His first radio employment was with WHSC in Hartsville, South Carolina. Moreover, he conducted play-by-play for High School basketball and baseball games in addition to his duties as a disc jockey. Rick is a journalist who has won numerous awards. The South Carolina Broadcasters Association named him Sportscaster of the Year in 1999. The Associated Press named his Sportscast as the best in South Carolina in 2005.
Additionally, he attained two Emmy nominations. Henry served the “Diamond Circle” of the University of South Carolina College of Journalism as an inductee in 1998. Hence, he joined a national group of distinguished persons selected for excellent achievements in their field. Rick has covered the Super Bowl, the 1996 Summer Olympics, the Masters, the Ryder Cup, the World Series, the Daytona 500, the NCAA Basketball tournament, and the NBA Playoffs. Furthermore, he was appointed CETA Director for Chesterfield County, South Carolina, in 1980.
