He re-joined the KITV4 team on March 2, 2020, after previously working for KPIX-TV and KGO-TV. He first joined KITV4 in July 1980, as a sports anchor and reporter before later leaving the station in July 1987. Later, he relocated to the San Francisco Bay area where he worked at KPIX-TV where he was a sports anchor for a period of 20 years, and at KGO-TV. He worked for 8 years till August 2018, when he left the station.
Over the years, Rick has been honored with many awards such as two regional Emmy awards and recognition. The awards are from the Radio-TV News Directors Association, the Peninsula Press Club, and the Associated Press. In addition, he was voted by the readers of the Alameda Newspaper Group as the favorite TV Anchorperson four times. Moreover, while he worked at KITV for the first time, the local sportscasters and sportswriters named him the Hawaii Sportscaster of the Year.
