Champion is a weather anchor at the Eyewitness News where he worked on the weekend and at 5:00 p.m. He started working in the station in the year 1988. Champion, later on, became the main weather anchor for the 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. newscasts. Sam was both the weekend anchor and reporter at WPSD-TV in Paducah, KY, before he joined WABC-TV. He first began his career as an intern at WKYT-TV in Lexington, KY, and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast news from Eastern Kentucky University.

He later became the weather anchor for the  Good Morning America show in the year 2006. Sam also built up on all contents in the ABC platforms, environmental coverage, and climate, ABC News’s Weather, Climate and Environment Unit, and also oversaw all weather.

After Sam became the Managing Editor of the Weather Channel in the year 2012, he created and also hosted the AMHQ, a 4-hour morning show, and 23.5, a climate and science interview program in prime time. Champion has also won various awards including the Peabody Award which was for his, “Sandy Coverage” and also four Emmys. Sam became the weather anchor for Eyewitness News This Morning after he returned to WABC in 2019.
