As a sixth-grade student in Franklin, Sam’s school chose him to ‘anchor’ their daily newscasts. At the time, he was excited about playground popularity, but he quickly discovered that this would be his career moving forward. Sam has come to love the responsibility and search for truth that comes with journalism since then, and he is excited to continue that work at FOX6 — the station his family watched growing up.
Sam’s journey back to Wisconsin opened his eyes to life beyond the Midwest. After graduating, he commenced his career at KNBN-TV in Rapid City, South Dakota as a General Assignment Reporter, in 2016 before climbing the ranks to Weekend reporter /anchor and then Main Anchor. During his time there, he became one of the first reporters to enlist in wildland firefighter training, giving him unique access to the fire lines during some of the state’s most devastating fires. Sam’s reports also explored development in South Dakota’s historic towns, an in-depth look at crimes, and more.
From there, he joined the staff in Colorado Springs, Colorado at KOAA-TV, as a Reporter and Fill-In Anchor in 2018. Sam spent a whole year covering the Kelsey Berreth case, from the missing individual report to arrests and a high-profile murder trial, in addition to being. His work on the case was highlighted in an episode of Dateline. In addition, Sam was the station’s point-person on countless natural disasters and shed light on growing pains connected to public safety in one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities. While he enjoyed the West, there’s nothing entirely like coming home to advance a profession and be closer to friends and family.
Sam has always been a news junkie, but outside of that, his support for the Packers, Brewers and Bucks has never wavered! You can always catch him catching a game. He also enjoys staying engaged, whether that’s working out, hitting the hiking trail or just going for a stroll along the Lakefront.
