Prior to joining the station, Ash worked at WXYZ-TV in Detroit, Michigan as a weekend meteorologist from 2008 to 2011. While working there, he the Michigan Association of Broadcasters awarded him Best Weathercast in 2009 and 2010. Before that, he worked at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana as a weekend meteorologist and science reporter from February 2000 to March 2008.
During his time there, he covered weather events such as the Memorial Day 2019 tornado outbreak, the November 17, 2013 Tornado Outbreak, the record-breaking December 23-23, 2004 snowstorm, and the aftermath of Hurricane Charley in 2004 among others. Prior to that, Ash worked at WTVC-TV NewsChannel9 in Chattanooga, Tennessee as a weekend meteorologist and science reporter from February 1998 to February 2000. He says the highlight of his career as a meteorologist was 11 tornadoes in only ninety minutes while storm chasing with Ball State University for his report on Chasing Danger that earned an Emmy nomination on May 24th, 2004. Ash was certified by the National Weather Association in April 2000.
