Sherry began working in Las Vegas the night the Hilton sign blew down from terrific thunderstorms and knew she was in the right place to do the weather. She started her career editing TV programs at WFAA-TV in Big Dallas where she worked as a P.M. Magazine editor from 1982 to 1984.
In 1985 she moved to Los Angeles and beautiful San Francisco. There she served as a Freelance Producer and Editor at KPIX-TV, KRON-TV, and various Production Companies. Sherry spent a few years visiting the Wine Country, eating sourdough bread, and producing and editing entertainment and travel shows, along with documentaries and nationally syndicated environmental reports.
Using her gift of gab as a weather anchor Sherry found her true calling. She served at KFSN in warm Fresno as a weekend weather anchor, though it wasn’t hot enough for her in the Central Valley. Therefore, she moved to Las Vegas to wake up at dark-thirty for 8NewsNow This Morning here at Channel 8. She says it’s a great way to beat the heat and the morning commute.
Swensk is also part of the 8NewsNow Live at Noon team and produces Living Green, an eco-franchise report about living sustainability in their fragile desert environment. During her free time, Sherry enjoys spending a lot of time with her family. She serves on the board of the Desert Southwest Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association where she works to help thousands of Southern Nevadans including her mom and their families living and dealing with the disease.

Sherry also volunteers as a host and emcee at fund-raising events for non-profit groups all over Southern Nevada.
