She graduated from Mondeor High School, where she was later invited to give a speech to the grade 12 pupils ahead of their final matric exams in 2018. Later on, she joined the University of Johannesburg, after completing her secondary school education and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom.) Accounting degree in 2011.
During her teenage years, she took part in theatre productions before getting her first TV role when she was at the age of 14. In the university, she participated in theatre productions at UJ Arts Centre whilst and served at UJFM, a community radio station based at the University of Johannesburg, beginning as a newsreader and later becoming a radio DJ.
Before moving to the popular youth radio station YFM in 2011 while she was in her last year of studies, she was working at UJFM in 2008. At the same time, she was acting in a movie that went on to air for 3 seasons in the sitcom My Perfect Family as Thando Nkosi.
In 2013 she joined 5FM on The Roger Goode Show. Other prominent works include Kowethu, 1s, and 2s, Club 808, Intersexions, Single Guys, and Ngempela. Thabethe and Somizi Mhlongo hosted the South African Music Awards in 2016 and also hosted the South African Film and Television Awards in 2017.

From 2014 to 2017 she played roles on Generations: The Legacy, a South African soap opera as Nolwazi Buzo. She was appointed as a Nivea brand ambassador in 2014 and making her the first African brand ambassador is for the German body-care brand. She began hosting her own show named The Thando Thabooty Show in 2016 on weekdays, then The Thabooty Drive in 2017.
