In fact, while in high school she was voted the shyest in high school band camp.
However, what changed her future path was a chance interview with a local reporter in high school. While attending university, Vanessa worked at the ABC affiliate in Pensacola. Her first on-air job took her to Dothan, Alabama. While working at the CBS affiliate, she learned the importance of the platform she was given. Her stories held companies accountable, created change for people who were living in unsafe conditions, and traveled with WWII veterans to Washington D.C.

During her time at WTVY, she earned an Associated Press award for Best Specialized Reporter. Her next stop was in Birmingham, Alabama Fox 6 was home for almost five years. While there she covered everything from a Christmas tornado outbreak to contentious political runs. The heartbreaking coverage was recognized with an Edward R. Murrow award. Afterward, Vanessa moved to Florida in 2019 to work for WKMG in Orlando. She refers to this as her master’s degree in journalism.
While in Orlando, after Hurricane Maria she traveled to Puerto Rico three times to tell the stories of thousands of people affected. Afterward, in 2020 Araiza would travel to Puerto Rico a fourth time after earthquakes rocked the unstable island. Araiza has always made volunteering a part of her life. She currently serves on the board of empowerment and is active with the Children’s Cancer Center and the Junior League of Tampa. During the pandemic, she served as a hospice foster for Second Chance Friends animal rescue taking in an English Bulldog named Addie and a Boxer named Roxie.
